2025 NUBE Conference – Call for Presentations/Posters

The American Association for Emergency Psychiatry (AAEP) invites you to submit proposals for the 16th Annual NUBE Conference, taking place December 8-10, 2025 in beautiful New Orleans, Louisiana.

NUBE is an annual conference focused specifically on management of behavioral emergencies within emergency medicine departments and community crisis settings. The goal of NUBE is two-fold: (1) to create a space in which healthcare providers from multiple disciplines can come together to network and share best practices, and (2) to advance the knowledge of behavioral emergency management.

Submission Deadline: July 31, 2025

CRITERIA

Preferred NUBE presentations focus on topics in behavioral emergency care, which may include complicated diagnostic presentations, pharmacologic management, care of special populations, patient experiences, diagnostic or management dilemmas, workplace violence prevention/intervention, treatment of substance use disorders, clinician well-being, use of acute and post-acute interventions, etc. Special consideration will be given to proposals which highlight pharmacologic management, workplace violence prevention/reduction, and those that focus on clinical skills building. Speaker presentations should be interactive, creative, and dynamic given the mixed conference audience. “Rapid fire” presentations (15-20 minutes) are especially popular for attendees and make up the bulk of the schedule. Attendees should leave with specific educational knowledge and skills in the delivery of psychiatric emergency care. Presentations should refrain from promoting a specific business, product, or service.

AUDIENCE

The AAEP highly values the interprofessional engagement and collaboration of the multidisciplinary audience who attend NUBE each year. The NUBE audience generally consists of psychiatrists, emergency medicine physicians, APPs, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and trainees. Audience members have a diversity of experience, ranging from early career to expert.

SUBMISSIONS

NUBE accepts a variety of speaker proposals – “rapid fire” presentations (1 speaker, 15-20 min), general session (1-2 speakers, 30 min), and panel presentations (up to 4 speakers, 45 min). This year NUBE will be offering a new 10 min case study/series submission type including medical mimickers. Types of presentations may include clinical skills building, quality improvement (QI), case studies, scientific research, or admin/organizational/leadership. NUBE also accepts poster submissions, with accepted poster types of research, QI, case study/series, and other.

Trainees of all related disciplines are specifically invited to submit for the trainee poster session (i.e., trainee as first author) and will be automatically considered for the Trainee Poster Competition. If selected as one of the top Trainee Submissions, the trainee will be expected to present the work as a brief oral paper (5-7 minutes) at the conference and will receive a prize.
When submitting, speakers and poster presenters will be asked to provide a 500-word abstract, 3 learning objectives, and other requirements for CE purposes. All proposals are blindly reviewed and scored.

PRESENTER REQUIREMENTS

Acceptance of presentations is contingent on all speakers providing all required information (a brief bio, conflict of interest form, headshot, AudioDigest consent form) by the stated deadline. These requests are required for securing continuing education for the program and for conference planning. All accepted submissions must be uploaded in their entirety to the conference website for CE review ahead of the conference (typically 2 weeks before the conference).

SELECTION PROCESS

The program committee for the National Update on Behavioral Emergencies makes all decisions on content in a blinded fashion and welcomes submissions from clinicians of all different backgrounds, including but not limited to race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability and profession.

Submissions are scored blind and evaluated based on the following:
1. Is it well-written (clear learning objectives, detailed, clear explanation of how they will use intended time)?
2. Is this broadly applicable to multiple disciplines?
3. Did others ask for presentations on this topic or is this a current hot topic?
4. Is this appropriate for the audience it aims to reach? (i.e. skill level)
5. Will this advance our knowledge/practice/operations?

Those who submitted proposals will be notified directly of the status of their proposal.
